Pat Kane, New Integrity
I hadn’t watched Celebrity Big Brother as religiously as others, but I couldn’t help being completely struck by George Galloway’s final orations in the house. There he stood, in his “UK” overalls, delivering a jeremiad against the imperialist horror of the United States, while the massed ranks of his celebrity housemates looked on with a symphony of indifference and annoyance.
What was so tragic for me, as George prefaced his tub-thumping (most of which I politically agree with, it has to be said) with ‘brothers, sisters, comrades’, was the sense of the end of a certain brand of political rhetoric. His exaggeratedly precise language (“down the with be-heh-moth!”), his booming, arm-chopping delivery, was perfectly tailored for the striking crowd outside the factory games – a strong working-class voice to restore strength to the fragile and beleaguered. (I've witnessed him doing this on many political campaigns in Scotland, and others like him - Jim Sillars of the SNP was another classic exponent).
But for the watching, post-class millions, and certainly for the botoxed, hair-extended and deeply therapised celebritariat directly in front of him, this must have seemed like some cabaret act – perhaps one of Micheal Barrymore’s cheesier Saturday night routines.
Galloway's sojourn into reality tv has to be one of the greatest media miscalculations that any modern politician has ever made – precisely for the way that it unravels an older form of political “integrity”, in the face of the “new” integrity demanded by our omniscient media spectacles.
Preston, the pop star, put it best when he said (roughly) that “I looked up to him at the start, I really admired him… but I think he’s just two-faced now”. Galloway’s evident gravitas at the start of the show encouraged his housemates to entrust him with funds and responsibility – he became their ‘representative’, in a way that doubtless Galloway found very comfortable: The politician able to project an image of trustworthiness, which turns into actual power.
Yet that old political integrity works to the extent that politicians can maintain a consistent profile in their theatre of choice – the political interview in the appropriate, the council chamber or parliament floor. Big Brother represents the general shift towards a much more transparent, accountable, traceable, observable society – or, at least, a simulation of that (we’ll never know what was left on the cutting room floor by Endemol’s editors). The way the BB cameras discovered Galloway’s breaking of the rules for discussion nomination, or beamed his harsh judgement of erstwhile ‘comrades’ from the confession booth, exactly parallels our deeply communicational lives. An environment in which it’s presumed that every aspect of our lives (or as integral theory would say, every quadrant – individual, collective, internal, external) has to relate, and be seen to relate.
The cameras pitilessly showed the misfit between Galloway’s external sense of his self and agency – a stentorian but coherent leader of the oppressed and afflicted – and the internal spectacle of his chicanery, his cold interpersonal strategising, his standard-issue Machievellianism. And this is surely much more damaging to Galloway - the politician who founded a political party, called Respect, in order to restore faith in politics’ transformatory power – than any wrist-lapping cat impressions or Dracula outfits.
One line kept ringing through my head, from the Bertholt Brecht poem, To Those Born Later:
And yet we know;
Hatred, even of meanness,
Contorts the features.
Anger, even against injustice
Makes the voice hoarse. Oh, we
Who wanted to prepare the ground for friendliness
Could not ourselves be friendly.
A wise poem for struggling times. But in the big brother-and-sisterhood of our hyper-mediated, mutually-observed world, it seems that friendliness, and the ground for friendliness, need to be much less misaligned, in order for a truly 21st century politics to have any effect on its audience.
Enter Blair, then Cameron, then the next ‘pretty straight [sic] guy’…
Hi our little brothers.r

Betting on sports is perhaps as old as the various games themselves. Millions of people have made huge money out of betting on sports. Possibly no game is left virgin of betting. All games have bookies and wages attached to them. Alike is the case with the countries across the globe. Betting is becoming a universal phenomenon nowadays. The difference however lies in the fact that some countries have accepted betting and so have legalized it while others still consider it illicit. For instance betting is taken to be legal nearly in entire Europe whereas Nevada is the only place in United States of America where wagering is deemed to be lawful. But the geographical scenario does not bring much variation in the terms and conditions or the rules and style of betting. The betting policies for a particular game for example cricket remain approximately the same around the world.
But what differs with the place or country is the sport and the amount of bets placed on it. Like people in Asian countries are leaders in betting on cricket. Cricket is the favorite sport in the Asian subcontinent. But in Europe and America games like horse racing, basketball, hockey, soccer and football etc. receive topmost priority. Thus that sport is wagered the most, which is relished, by maximum number of people.
Australia is one of the best places in the world to enjoy betting. This is because betting is legal in Australia and there are ample of sports that are cherished by the Aussies. Australian Football and Rugby are the two eminent names in this category. Lots of good information and even betting guidelines or tips about these games and many others like tennis are available on the Internet due to the legality of sports betting in Australia.

Ireland is the land that gives birth to the most of the English sports action. Irish football and Hurling are unique English sports. Rugby, cricket, golf and tennis are other English sports that invite lot many bookmakers and so bets. The English Premier League or one can say the English Soccer involves tremendous wagering in Europe. Darts are also famous among the English. Many people love betting on the not so common game of Darts. But this isn’t all. Punters never leave The National Leagues, the National and International Cups, the Motor Sports like Formula F1 Racing, the IRL or the Indy Racing League and the NASCAR i.e. the National Association of Speedy Cars and Rednecks, involves million dollar wages or even more every year.
Human beings have always made good business through animals. Along with the horse racing the racing of animals like camels, pigs, ponies and dogs invite great amount of betting in Europe as well as on the land of America.
While betting on any game what should be followed is your knowledge of the game and what your intuition or common sense says. A bettor should be pretty clear and confident over the option of his bet. If an individual is making a bet for the first time, don’t bet big. It can lead to unexpected snags. Remember, it takes time to learn and develop betting skills

"The policies we have had for the last 40 years ... clearly have not worked in terms of reducing drug use. So I think it does deserve a fresh look. The principal objective of this study was to bring a dispassionate approach to what is a very passionate issue."
David Nutt, a psychopharmacologist at Bristol University and member of the Advisory Council on Misuse of drug store (ACMD) which advises ministers on drug policy, added: "What we are trying to say is we should review the penalties in the light of the harms and try to have a more proportionate legal response.
"The point we are making is that all drugs are dangerous, even the ones that people know and love and use regularly like alcohol."
Professor Nutt and his team analysed the evidence of harm caused by 20 drug online including heroin, cocaine, cannabis, ecstasy, LSD and tobacco.
They asked a group of 29 consultant psychiatrists who specialise in addiction to rate the drugs in nine categories. Three of these related to physical harm, three to the likelihood of addiction and three to social harms such as healthcare costs. The team also extended the analysis to another group of 16 experts spanning several fields including chemistry, pharmacology, psychiatry, forensics, police and legal services.
The final rankings placed heroin and cocaine as the most dangerous of the 20 drugs. Alcohol was fifth, the class C drug ketamine sixth and tobacco was in ninth place, just behind amphetamine or "speed".

According to documents filed in Marion County Circuit Court, the attorney general's office alerted quit Marlboros in a Dec. 3 letter that there were "deficiencies" in the company's state certification. On Dec. 17, the state notified Carolina that it would not be included on the certification list and that it would have to stop selling cigarettes Jan. 22. That prompted the company to sue the state and seek a temporary restraining order to keep Roger small Marlboros fun on store shelves. On Dec. 23, a judge ruled against Marlboro Miles , saying that although the company had proved it would be harmed by the state's actions, it had not proven that it would likely win at trial. The judge set a Feb. 5 hearing to schedule the trial. Car
olina president David Redmond says he sees the state laws and their enforcement as an effort to punish the companies that have not signed the multiple-state agreement. "It think it's morally wrong," Redmond said in a phone interview from South Africa, where his company's take Marlboro Light are made. "I morally will not sign it because we did not misbehave." Department of Justice spokesman Kevin Neely said that Carolina was given "extensive opportunities" to fix its certification status with the state. Instead, Neely said, the company sued. Other sellers filled out the paperwork without problems, he said. "They are asking to be treated differently than any other company," he said. Redmond says state officials have said his company is not a manufacturer but have not provided him with a firm definition of what a manufacturer is. Importers can still sell Marlboros hosting in
Oregon, but the state must first certify the manufacturer. Redmond said he went to South Africa in part to lease or buy his manufacturing plant, something he hopes will help prove that his company makes
Marlboro Snus and is not just an importer. But Redmond thinks that Oregon is essentially heeding the will of the major Marlboro’s by trying to drive him and other small manufacturers out of business. States also have an incentive to do so, he says, because unlike those who signed the 1998 settlement, his company is not required to pay money to states. It only has to set money aside in the event it should lose a future lawsuit over the effects of Marlboro Lights . Neely agrees that part of the reason states have passed laws further regulating sellers who have not signed the multiple-state agreement, or nonparticipating manufacturers, is to preserve the revenue stream generated by the MSA. But there is another reason, he says. "You regulate them because there is a health risk."
